OUR STORY
Hope for the Nations (HFTN) was established in Kelowna, BC, Canada as a non-profit organization in 1994. The organization was birthed from a
deep concern that the needs of the most vulnerable and exploited members of our world – children – were not being adequately addressed.
Over the course of the years and through a system of coalitions and partnerships, HFTN has broadened its scope while maintaining its focus on
children at risk. HFTN now has projects established in over twenty countries on four continents making it one of the largest non-government
organizations (NGOs) working in the area of community-based child care in developing countries.
From an initial focus on developing homes for children, Hope for the Nations has expanded its work to include education, microenterprises,
community development, and special projects in the areas of child trafficking and child soldiers. In all of its work, Hope for the Nations
addresses the long-term concerns of gender equity and poverty reduction.
Hope for the Nations obtained "Special Consultative Status" in 2002 with the Economic Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, and was
given the role of UN-NGO-IRENE coordinator for North America. Hope for the Nations is a CIDA approved organization.
Today, HFTN is a registered charity in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, and is a registered non-government organization in over
twenty countries.
