Hope For The Nations

Learn more about this Program Program: CHILDREN IN EXTREME POVERTY

All of the children that Hope for the Nations works with are 'at risk' because of the effects of extreme poverty. Poverty impacts children because it hurts families. There are a number of ways in which it does this.

Poverty is a barrier to accessing health services. HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB affect millions of parents each year; without access to treatment, parents are unable to get well, earn a living or care for their children. Sometimes this means that their children are orphaned.

Poverty impacts a family's ability to provide food, shelter and education for all of their family members. In extreme poverty conditions, families may send their children to work rather than to school; in the worst scenario, children are employed in the worst forms of labour or parents sell their children into the trafficking network.

Poverty, in a variety of ways, feeds the cycle of violence in countries that are caught in conflict. Not only does this violence kill parents and children, it also causes major upheaval in the lives of families and communities,  destroying family assets and future opportunities.

Without strategic interventions, poverty tends to be passed from one generation to another. Hope for the Nations believes that by intervening in the lives of the children who are most disadvantaged by poverty - orphans and vulnerable children - we can begin the process of change and the cycle of poverty can be broken. "Today's orphans" can be "tomorrow's leaders".

Learn more about this Project Project: KENYA - Kitale : Kiungani Home ( was Dynamic Transformation Home)

Dalton, a 21 year old street boy with a vision, took the initiative to start a small school for street children. A humble shack was where a dozen street children were fed and taught. Within one year, this school moved into what is now a children's home.

Twenty three children are now living in the safety of a rented house, fed and cared for by a loving staff and attending a private elementary school.

As you read this, we are building a beautiful home on two acres of land purchased for Dalton and his new bride Lillian.

Our partner organization is Element Four, a marketing and Research and Development company based in Kelowna, BC. Element Four is focused on the development of atmospheric water generators, or WaterMills, which can be used in settings that lack access to fresh potable water.

My wife Judy and our friends Stephen Moorgen, Maghen Moorgen, Chris Barrington, Candace Barrington, their 2 children and myself Kelvin Jones have just returned to Canada from Kitale, Kenya. We worked with Dalton and his wife lIilian at the Kiungani Childrens Home.

Hope for the Nations has purchased 2 acres of land about 9 kilometers from Kitale, Kenya in the area known as Kiungani. The construction of a childrens home has started. In fact the roof for the girl's dorm is being built this week. When the girls dorm is finished they hope to start on the boys dorm and then roof the common area between the two dorms. funds need to be raised to see this construction completed.

The 2 acres give them the opportunity to have garden area, a cow for milk, sheep for food and chickens for eggs and food. Each of the older children has their own garden spot that they are responsible for.

It was a pleasure to get to know Dalton and Lillian and the 25 children they now have under their care. This is a wonderful couple who are dedicated to helping street kids get off the street and into a loving and caring enviroment. It was tremendous to see what God has done in these kids lives.

Please halp us complete this project by giving to the Kiungani Childrens Home.

  • Over the last 4 and half months a lot of progress has been made at the Kiungani Children’s Home we visited in November. We are pleased to announce that the girl’s dorm has been completed and the children have made this their home. In March a new bore hole or well was drilled. A pump was installed at that time and now clean drinking water is available on the 2 acres. This is a tremendous thing for the children and the community that they are located in.

Dalton and Lillian have given each of the children a chicken so that they can learn to look after it and use it as an example of how to earn some money by selling the eggs or chicks that are produced. Dalton has done the same with the older children. They each have been given a garden plot that is their responsibility. The income they earn from selling the produce they grow is to be used for their school supplies.

In our last newsletter, I wrote that we needed another 8 - 10 thousand dollars to see the boys dorm completed. Over $7000.00 has been raised since then and construction has started. Supplies have been purchased and the work is progressing very well. We still need another $3000 to put the floor, doors and windows in. The goal is to have the walls and roof done by May. Another group from Kelowna is going over in May to install solar panels on the roofs so that they will have power.

We look forward to hearing that the project is finished. For it to be finished we will need the last 3 to 4000 to come in over the next month or so. If you can help us please let us know. You can give directly to Hope for the Nations and designate it to the Kiungani Children’s Home. Or you can visit our Champion’s site for this project at http://www.hopeforthenations.com/champion/champion.aspx?asset=242 and become a friend and do your giving online.

Thank you for all your support in the past. We appreciate all that you have done to help us in Gulu and now Kitale. As you know our goal is for a lot more homes to be built in the next 30 years or more. Anything you can do, will help a lot in seeing HARC’s goals accomplished.

May God bless each of you.

    We have added more pictures.

I have know Kelvin and Judy for many years and what they do and what they stand for is just simply incredible and extremely unselfish. I have had the pleasure of building and donating their HARC (Hope for AT Risk Children) website for them and continue to wish them much success with their Outreach programs. I can only wish to be 1/10th as kind hearted and honest as these two people.

    God Bless you guy's.

Hi you guys, I'm looking forward to seeing some Updates soon! (click Manage Page to post) I know that my dad (Ralph) has a pretty big soft spot in his heart for Dalton. I have heard stories about him at the dinner table for years now. It is amazing to me how much these youth who have had a difficult life just want a chance to contribute to their communities and help their friends. Thank you for believing in Dalton!
