Hope For The Nations

Learn more about this Program Program: CHILDREN IN EXTREME POVERTY

All of the children that Hope for the Nations works with are 'at risk' because of the effects of extreme poverty. Poverty impacts children because it hurts families. There are a number of ways in which it does this.

Poverty is a barrier to accessing health services. HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB affect millions of parents each year; without access to treatment, parents are unable to get well, earn a living or care for their children. Sometimes this means that their children are orphaned.

Poverty impacts a family's ability to provide food, shelter and education for all of their family members. In extreme poverty conditions, families may send their children to work rather than to school; in the worst scenario, children are employed in the worst forms of labour or parents sell their children into the trafficking network.

Poverty, in a variety of ways, feeds the cycle of violence in countries that are caught in conflict. Not only does this violence kill parents and children, it also causes major upheaval in the lives of families and communities,  destroying family assets and future opportunities.

Without strategic interventions, poverty tends to be passed from one generation to another. Hope for the Nations believes that by intervening in the lives of the children who are most disadvantaged by poverty - orphans and vulnerable children - we can begin the process of change and the cycle of poverty can be broken. "Today's orphans" can be "tomorrow's leaders".

Learn more about this Project Project: SWAZILAND : New Hope Centre

The New Hope Centre is to address the multiple needs of HIV/AIDS orphaned children within the Swazi Nation with a home for infants and a permanent home for orphaned children from the ages of 2 to 18.

Our objective with the children is to provide them with the basic necessities for a fulfilling life. We want to provide them with a family structure that includes parental care and education. We want to train them up to become not only productive members of society, but to be leaders in that society as well.

Edwin and Evelyn Henkel - CANS & BOTTLES For Orphans

Champion Image

In 2009 Evelyn and I wanted to come alongside of New Hope Centre in raising funds and awareness for the needs of orphans in Swaziland.

We started collecting cans and bottles and asked others to do the same.  In 2009 we raised approximately $3000.  ($2000. from cans and bottles and $1000. from cash donations).

Our network of people collecting cans and bottles keeps growing and we are looking forward to what can be achieved in 2010!

Join us in meeting an orphans needs, by taking an old pop can or bottle to the recycling depot today! Turning someone else's trash into life for an orphan!  Come champion this cause with us!

You can get involved 1 of 2 ways:

  • Cash Donations  and raising awareness of this cause by hitting DONATE and TELLING ALL YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY
  • Return your cans and bottles and donate that money to this cause by DONATING here.

  • Once again the bottle donations keep rolling in.  We collected 9705 items worth $691.45

Total for the year 62981 items worth $4,497.95 this money is put to good use supporting two

orphanages.  Google Hope For The Nations and enter SIMON in the search bar upper left

two sites will pop up both for projects in KENYA.  This are sites my Grandson posted for

BETHLEHEM HOUSE the orphanage in Kenya which we are also helping to support.

We  must raise enough money to buy the two acres for the new orphanage.  Lets get the

contributions rolling in. This project is quite an undertaking for a 15 yr old. keep checking the site

and watch the numbers grow.     ED and EVELYN HENKEL

    July breakes all records

Posted by Edwin and Evelyn Henkel on Aug 5, 2010 1:21 AM

With the help of TRINITY BAPTIST KIDS CAMP who collected over 6,000 cans and bottles

July we collected 14,848 cans and bottles and raised $1,091.35.   This is the first time we went

over the $1,000.00 mark. It amazes us how this project continues to grow.  We now are able to

help, support a second Orphanage in Kenya. Bethlehem Home is run by Joesph  and Linet

who have taken six orphans into their home. They are raising broiler chickens to help support

their home. The next step is to raise funds to buy two acres to start a farming operation.

Here the Kids can learn to grow crops and raise extra money. What a privilege to help them get

get started. Keep the cans and bottles coming to help these Orphans.

Thanks for your help.   ED and EVELYN HENKEL

  • July 4 to 9 Trinity Baptist Church in Kelowna B. C. held a Kids Camp with 200 kids attending.

Every year they take on a project. This year they were collecting cans and bottles for

New Hope Centre an orphanage in Swaziland Africa.  In one week they collected

over 3300 cans and bottles raising $230.00 for the orphanage. This is a good example of kids

helping kids. Pastor Carol Wiebe with her enthusiasm really promoted this project. July 18

a second camp will be held and they will take on the same project. Thanks to the kids for doing

    such a terrific job.

You guys are doing great! You had 20 new people look at your Champion page this week - the most of anyone! Maybe you should consider Inviting Friends to take back their cans during a set week and donate the money to your project through your Champion page! A "virtual" pop can drive- I think it would be a first! Kirsten
