Hope Academy

Recently HFTN in partnership with NLC has constructed and established "Hope Academy Primary School" in a mountainous region of North India. "Hope Academy" seeks to provide a "window of opportunity" for impoverished children is a region where very little "hope" exists.

The focus of this work is primarily to the poor in remote and rural areas of the Himalayan foothills and Punjab regions of Northern India. Currently this ministry is caring for approximately 1200 destitute children whom are housed, fed, receiving an education and are given opportunity for further university education, career counseling and vocational training.

Hope Academy is situated in the Hindu village of Dhamatoli in the Tehri region of North east India.  The region is very mountainous with heights ranging from 6000-7000 feet.  The local people live in villages, mountain tops or valleys close to water resources.

The school will initiate a Christian presence in this community.  The goal of Hope Academy is to be a vehicle to address "felt needs" - that being "quality education".  Education is believed to be one vehicle in which to overcome the cycle of generational poverty.

Since 2002 Hope Academy has been functioning as a School - initially in a rented facility with 15 children.  Today, Hope Academy is functioning in its own 6 room classroom school building.  There are 50 village children in grades K-2.  More grades will be added each year as the school expands.  The children are receiving an education in English medium with a "Christian" focus.
