I am a student studying Sociology and Criminology at the University of Calgary.

I am also a huge supporter of the Global Enrichment Foundation and have recently established the B.R.I.T.E. (Bringing Relief; Inspiring Through Education) chapter of the GEF in Red Deer.

This summer, my dad and I are riding our bikes from Red Deer to Canmore to raise awareness and funds for the Global Enrichment Foundation’s newest program, the RAJO Women’s Literacy School.

Every Somali woman, if given the chance, has the potential to make significant contributions to the development of Somalia. GEF educational initiatives support and encourage the development of female leadership skills. These women are truly passionate about creating positive and sustainable change in not only their own lives, but also the lives of their families, community, and their country as a whole.

We would like to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to all who generously donated and supported this year's Ride to Empower bike trip.

We were able to exceed our $4,000 fundraising goal; raising  over $4,400!

Thanks again for all your support and kind donations!
You have helped to empower and change the lives of not only the Somali women who are receiving an educational opportunity at the RAJO Literacy School, but also the lives of their families and community.

Red Deer to Canmore in 2 days!

This summer my dad and I are riding our bikes to raise awareness and funds for the Global Enrichment Foundation’s newest program, the RAJO Women’s Literacy School.

The RAJO school currently provides beginner, intermediate and advanced English language instruction to 75 Somali refugee women residing in Eastleigh, Nairobi, Kenya. The word ‘rajo’ means hope in Somali, which is what the school provides to these women who have fled their homeland and have lost their family and community support. The week-day classes include basic computer skills training, open discussions regarding health and nutrition, parenting, conflict resolution, and the challenges Somali women face as refugees.

These classes provide participants with an opportunity – for most, their first in any language – to learn how to read, write and express themselves in English. Increasing their knowledge and understanding of one of Kenya’s official languages will help these women adapt to their environment and improve their day-to-day lives. They also enable participants to meet and socialize regularly with other women, allowing them to work together to overcome adversity by becoming informed and active advocates for themselves, their families and their community.

If you are interested in supporting RAJO, you may donate through my page (here) or you may make a cheque payable to: 'Hope for the Nations re-RAJO' (You may then mail it to me).

Donations of $25.00 or more are tax creditable.

Thank you for your time, interest and support. We really appreciate it.
