SOWETO SLUM FEEDING PROGRAM - COVID-19

Update from Hope & Bright Future Center:
One of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic is on the economy, how people run business and daily activities. Kenya has not been left out from these effects. Businesses have been shut down, others rapidly slowing down, job losses and financial strain.
In Soweto slums, Nairobi Kenya most families that were already having a hard time are now more affected. Getting even one meal a day is becoming more and more difficult. Hope & Bright Future School feeding program was an assurance of at least a meal daily. With the Covid-19 crisis schools were closed and government is insisting on people staying indoor as a measure of control of the spread.
We are not able to continue with the feeding program at the school BUT we can start giving a FAMILY FOOD PACKAGE that will help feed not only the kids of HBFC but their siblings from their homes for a few days of the week as parents try to provide for the rest of the days.
Family Food Package Items:
Beans
Porridge flour
Maize Flour
Rice
Cooking oil
Cabbage
Long life milk
We can buy the food in bulk and repackage as the costing will be less than buying already packaged food from the shelves. We will closely work with the government agencies during distribution and parents to ensure all measures are taken to avoid crowding and practice social distancing throughout.
