Akae Dwelling

Akae [swahili for stay, abide] is a housing project addressing the commercial sex exploitation of women and children along the South Coast of Kenya.
Our goal at the dwelling is to provide a place to live for women coming off the streets and to equip them with job skills.

Akae Dwelling

Our project began by turning several storage containers into a 6-unit dwelling which now provides safe and affordable housing for women coming off the streets and their children. Our community is a supportive environment for women who want to pursue alternative employment paths. We have seen women succeed at starting their own businesses, and begin to grow and raise their own food on the property.

As of 2021, the women have formed their own CBO (community based organization) in Kenya. Women with Great Impact is a group seeking to empower others with the skills and sustainable practices they have learned.
