Myanmar remains in a state-of-emergency since its military seized control over elected government officials last February, leading to the collapse of the peace process of the ten ethnic armed groups that are signatories to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement. This includes the Karen National Union whose areas have recently been ravaged with the increasing armed confrontations that has caused the displacement of about 6,500 Karen civilians in our focus region early April of this year. HOPE has built a network of local leaders in the affected areas and are now in position to respond to this ongoing crises.
