Indonesia is a nation that has one of the world’s fastest growing economies, but unfortunately, that economic progress hasn’t trickled down much to poor families.

Indonesia is the fourth largest country in the world hosting the world’s largest Muslim population in its 17,000 islands. Medan is the third largest city in Indonesia, with a population of over 2 million people. It is situated in the north of Sumatra, and is the location of Indonesian Women Heritage Cooperative (IWHC).

At HOPE, we are empowering women from urban poor communities with the opportunity to develop their own business through a tested and proven micro-loan model that has already lifted thousands of women out of poverty.

Our pioneering leader, Sora Tarigan with Indonesian Women’s Heritage Cooperative (IWHC), reports that women in the program have;

  • Increased economic opportunity for the family
  • Elevated status in the community
  • Increased health for the entire family
  • Sufficient housing for the family
  • Sufficient food and nutrition for the family

This is because of the marriage of partnership, opportunity, and a successful program.

The women of IWHC no longer have to resort to paying back business loans of up to 25% per month from loan sharks, but with IWHC can now easily pay back their loans which have reasonable interest rates.  Community training and support give the women tools and confidence to make their businesses successful as they experience the dignity of providing their own income to support the needs for their own children.

Your investment of $150 will not only provide a loan that will impact one family, but your donation will be multiplied every 6 months in the form of a new loan for a new family. It truly is a gift that keeps on giving. 1 micro-loan of $150 can grow to 10 loans over 5 years.

NOTE: Current repayment rates are at 98%, showing this to be a prudent investment.

We, as ordinary people, can bring extraordinary change into the lives of families in Indonesia through a simple investment of $150 per family.

Please consider joining us on this journey!

Project Updates

  • Computer literacy is so important to the students studying in this school located in the slums of Medan. Each student learns the basic skills of taught in the classrooms ... but these students need skills which will provide employment.

In July 2016 we opened a Vocational School with a 'major' in Office Administration. Students can work after finishing their school and they can be qualified to work and support their lives.

12 Computers purchased through generous donors in CANADA helped to make the Vocational School dream become a reality.

    COMPUTER COMPETENCY :

    • as the means of joyful learning
    • as the means to develop students talent
    •  as the means to develop students character
    • as the means to develop students skills

  • I have recently traveled to Medan, Indonesia to visit the women engaged in this micro-loan project. This is the real deal when it comes to empowering women.

Each class of graduating women is made up of hard-working mothers who have already started an enterprise of some sort. They have invested their own money and time but need a 'bump' in capital to achieve higher revenue.

The picture above is truly "worth a 1000 words". It shows joy and celebration as they receive their completion diploma and funds to continue their work.

We ask for your investment in the lives of many more mothers.

This program brings success to the lives of mothers, their family and to the community!
