Meet Team Leader at Provision of Hope, Mexico – Cristina Nunez
Cristina is married to Pastor Javier Santos Hernandez and together with their 3 boys, they run a small church in the little village of Solidaridad, a suburb of Ciudad Valles. From this location they also planted other mission churches in the surrounding impoverished areas, including the indigenous Tenek regions around the city.
Cristina and Javier both have a passion to reach out to the “poorest of the poor” indigenous people surrounding Ciudad Valles. Like Good Samaritans they are always found sharing the love of God and bringing food to those most desperate. “They care about us!” is what the people of these communities will say about them. You will even find Cristina bringing food to those who are waiting outside the hospital, with a sick child, hoping to see a doctor.
Cristina’s heart of compassion led them to start the Hidden Mana Feeding Center at Buenos Aires in 2012. Originally this village was a squatter land settlement slum, a 10 minute walk from Solidaridad. “There were so many squatters living in shacks and so many children suffering severely, we knew we had to do what little we could do to help these desperate mothers to feed their hungry children”
Cristina felt the need to begin a program where they put together food from wherever they could collect it and begin feeding the children a nutritious breakfast every Saturday morning. The funding for this initial ministry came mostly from Javier and Cristina themselves as well as any help that members of their very small and poor church in Solidaridad were able to give.
In December of 2018, the Hidden Mana Feeding Shelter burned to the ground through arson. This was a very old building. Shortly after that Hope for the Nations was able to fund a new building for the Feeding Center. This building is also used for the Youth Church and Adult Church that emerged from these little Breakfast Bible Studies for Kids! The children of yesterday are the teens of today! Cristina is known for her mentoring and raising up the next generation to become champion leaders for tomorrow! Some of the children who were a part of the work from its inception are now older teens and are an integral part of this ministry. They are Cristina’s right-hand workers!
